We are….BEECHWOOD!!!

THE BEECHWOOD MARCHING BAND JOURNEY IS COMPLETE!!!!!!

blazeblueprintpassagefamousdangerous beautymuse3

Becca: Marching band has been my life for 6 years. Not a small part either. Practice 4 to 5 days a week for a month straight, then cut down to 3 days a week with all day competitions on Saturdays for 3 months. Practice hours can range from 3 to 9 hours. So for 4 months straight, 5 months every other year, marching band is all I have time for. Giving all of my strength and energy to learn a 10 minute long show with way too much running around. Sounds like tons of fun right? Yeah it isn’t, at all. So why did I do it? Why did I give so much of my high school life to this extracurricular activity? Well, the main reason is because of the people. The group that kept evolving with people leaving and coming in, it became my second family. I didn’t always enjoy the drama or the annoying people who would never shut up, but I did enjoy the meaningful talks on long bus rides and the connection we felt when waiting for awards. All of us understood that we needed to come together and become one in order to pull off our best performances. Over these 6 years, I have learned to become a better leader and person, work hard to improve, accept wins and losses, and stay calm in stressful situations. I couldn’t have asked for a better activity to keep me busy and give me great people to  hang out with during high school. Thanks for the memories Beechwood High School marching band!

Jenna: From ugly to less ugly, I have been blessed to be a part of something so great and powerful. For 6 years I spent many tears, sweat, and love with a group of people that taught me how to be a better and successful person. The Beechwood Marching Band is a family that is never broken or forgotten and being one of those included in it I can honestly say will be one of the best things to ever have happened to me. I loved and hated every second of it! The people came and went but I know that those memories are embedded into my heart and soul for life. It will forever be an experience that I cannot completely describe, and I will miss every. single. little. detail. We are….THE BEECHWOOD COLORGUARD! (no, I did not say that wrong.)

QuesTWIN of the Week #3

Do you think that the world will be a better or worse place 100 years from now?

Jenna: It’s hard to say what the future holds, but in my opinion if the world continues in the direction it’s going in we are doomed to ruin this planet. Ultimately, we will have murdered the environment with all the coal, fuel, and deforestation; the economy will be in the crapper; people will have no social contact outside of technology; our world will be driven by robots instead of humanity itself. Basically, humanity’s reign will have come and gone. #byebyebye

Becca: If the world in 100 years is anything like the present planet, then I think it will be a worse place. However, every day there are more and more people coming up with ideas and making an effort to slow, even stop, the pollution and damage of our home. If these bright ideas were enforced more in every country, and how in danger the Earth really is was brought to more people’s attention, I believe the world could be in a much better place 100 years from now. Humanity as a whole just needs to put more of an effort into fixing the problem we caused, even if it was the generations before the current population.

Twinology 101

Twins rule. Why? Because! But here are 5 specific reasons why…

1. Left handedness is nearly twice as common in twins than singletons.

2.Twins can have different biological fathers….mind explosion!

3. Nearly half of twins invent their own language.

4. Twins can be born months/weeks apart. Say whaaa?!

5. Twins interact with one another in the womb.

Jenna: You totally think twins are even cooler now, right?! Yeah, that’s what I thought. Anyway…let’s have story time! A waaay looong time ago, like 16 years ago (more or less), Becca had a speech impediment that made it almost impossible to understand anything she said. Everybody could pick out bits and pieces of what she said, but only one person was completely able to comprehend and translate the things she blabbed…that person would be me! For a period of time, mine and Becca’s twin ties seemed to actually connect us in a way that no one else understood. So, believe it when people say that twins invent/understand a language of their own because we are true examples of it.

Becca: I’m not sure how common left handedness actually is in twins, but I definitely fit into the minority. Remember how Jenna and I are complete opposites? Our dominant hands are no exception. I am a lefty, while Jenna is an average righty. I guess being a left handed twin makes me pretty special, right?

Jenna: To sum this post up, it’s pretty common for twins (or any set of multiples for that matter) to interact with one another from the get go…meaning inside the mommy’s tummy. I mean helloooo we all need social interaction! Moving on…my mom once told a story about how she remembered Becca and I would practically have wrestling matches inside of her. (Yeah we’re that fiesty.) She said, and I quote, “I could literally see multiple hands and feet sticking out of my stomach in various places and feel you two going at it constantly.” No different than present day, right? Gotta love that social interaction!!!

QuesTWIN of the Week #2

Do you judge others by higher or lower standards than you use to judge yourself?

Jenna: Yes guys, I am that hypocritical person everyone hates…but aren’t we all? I mean, regardless of what we want to believe we all judge each other for things we do ourselves. I wish I could say I always judge myself at higher standards, but I know that I fall off the wagon and bash others for mistakes I make as well. So, the real question to be asked here…what can you do in order to judge others less and yourself more often?….#LAWYERED!

Becca: I have very high standards for myself, often times not meeting them and therefore thinking I’m not good enough. I generally hold others up to the same standards I hold myself up to, sometimes lower. How I judge someone usually depends on the situation and how well I know the person. I hold close friends and family to higher standards than someone I’ve just met or heard about before.

Pumpkins…Hay…and Bulls? Oh my.

First monthly twin date has been completed! In an attempt to be cliche during the fall season, we went to the Haven Farm for a bit of pumpkin picking and hay riding. Thoughts?…

Jenna: Corn maze? Pretty boring if you ask me. Animals? Gross, nothing more. Pumpkin patch? BEST THING ON THE FACE OF THIS EARTH!!!! We were pretty darn cute looking for that one special punkin! Hay ride? I’d prefer not having straw sticking me in the butt over a bumpy tractor ride, but hey it could have been worse. Overall, it wasn’t my forte, but hanging out with the twin right before the big 18th birthday wasn’t too bad…

Becca: LOVED visiting the Haven Farm today! Sure, it is meant more for kids, but if we are being honest I am a complete child at heart. I adored the animals, especially the goats that kept baaing and sticking their heads through the gates, begging for food. Can’t decide if the hay ride or the search for the perfect pumpkin was better. The hay ride was calm and relaxing, while also entertaining because of the cows that surrounded us to obtain our corn and the interesting facts we learned about the farm from the 9th generation owner. The pumpkin patch was, in my opinion, a great bonding experience for Jenna and I. We teamed up to locate the perfect pumpkin for each other and carefully observed each and every one in the patch. A very successful date that fit the season. 🙂

QuesTWIN of the Week #1

How many of your friendships have lasted more than 5 years? Which of your current friends do you feel will still be important to you 5 years from now?

Jenna: I have 3 friends that come to mind instantly. Olivia (who I’ve been best friends with for about 10 years now), Hannah (my bestie of 4 years), and Katie (my shortest, but not least appreciated friendship of 2 1/2 years). Honestly, I ask myself this question all the time! But if I had to really get down in the dirt and think about it, I’d say that I know for a fact Olivia and I would stay in contact (best friends or not). Our friendship and all that we’ve been through is just something that will last the rest of our lives. The only other person I could come close to saying that about is Hannah. That girl and I connect in ways that aren’t there for me and Olivia. Where Olivia constantly pushes me to reach my limits, Hannah is the one right beside me when I break. I hate them sometimes (OHHHH YES I DO!), but these girls are my friends for life!

Becca: If I am being completely honest, almost none of my friendships have lasted longer than 5 years. There are 2 friends who have been with me for at least 5 years. Julia has been a good friend for 8 years. We have done cheer leading and color guard together until this year. We don’t hang out often, but I feel like she is a friend that will be there when I need her. I’m not sure if we will stay in contact in 5 years, but I sure hope so. Then there is Olivia. Liv and I have been frienemies since 7th grade. We also did cheer leading together and are still in color guard. We have a love/hate relationship, often going from kidding and joking to not being able to stand each other. Who knows if we will still be friends in 5 years with our odd relationship. Last but not least, my twin Jenna. Yes we are sisters, but siblings aren’t always friends and she doesn’t really consider me a friend. But Jenna has been and will always be one of my best friends. Hopefully we won’t fight as much and will appreciate our relationship more when we are older. Until then, I am grateful for the fun memories that we make together.

Who is SHE?..

Heyooo! I’m Jenna, the younger of us Vandertwins. To make this short I’ll give 5 things I love and 5 things I hate…ready?!

1) ALL music! LOOOOVE IT! 2) Coffee and food. ’nuff said. 3) Chick flicks…OH MAN! those things are da best! 4) My big ‘ol weird family..oh those weirdos… 5) Kids and teaching! Can’t wait until the day I get to lead my own classroom of little devils!

1) SPIDERS. JUST NO. 2) Baseball #Boooring!!!! 3) Two-faced, lying, manipulating people. Like no, just stop. 4) Animals…they’re just gross and unnecessary, honestly. 5) Tea. I just hate it.

Hey people! I am Becca, and if you haven’t guessed yet, I am the older twin. Almost no one knows that though because I am shorter and look younger than my dear sister Jenna. Obviously I don’t mind that I get mistaken as a younger sister often….any who, moving on. I’m a pretty simple person. I like movies, reading, sleep, and anything with tons of sugar. I dislike drama and having to look nice, meaning all done up with makeup and hair and pretty clothes. Give me sweatpants and sweatshirts with a ponytail over cute clothes any day! I adore cute, cuddly animals and on rare occasions I kind of enjoy little kids. So, yeah, that’s just a little information on me. Hope everyone has a good day.

Yours truly, Becca and Jenna.
